The glass skin trend has been taking over the world since 2017, when people all across the globe stepped up their skincare game to achieve a gleaming, glass-like complexion. However, another beauty trend is about to make waves as it promises to give skincare enthusiasts soft, supple skin without the fuss of a 10-step skincare routine.

The cream skin trend is currently heating up in South Korea, and is expected to make it big in the United States by 2020. In an interview with Stylecaster, Soko Glam founder and K-beauty expert, Charlotte Cho, describes the trend as a product rather than a “look.” Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming skin craze and its potential to streamline your skincare routine.

Cream skin products in a nutshell

Speaking with the media outlet, Cho explained that a cream product is what you get if you mix a toner and moisturizer, and the result is a liquid that has a smooth and milky texture. As it’s hydrating enough to be used without a separate cream or moisturizer, it’s a great option for individuals who travel frequently or for people who simply want to pare down the number of products that they use on their skin. Several K-beauty brands have recently launched cream toners as part of their respective product lines, and a few notable ones are CosRx’s Light Fit Cream, Laneige’s Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer, and Hanskin’s Avocado Cream Skin.

Is it right for you?

As with any skincare product, it’s important to consider several factors before including a cream toner in your routine. First, find out if it’s fit for your skin type and its needs. The good thing is that a cream toner can be beneficial for almost all skin types, depending on how you use it with other products. For instance, if your face is on the oily side or if you have combination skin, then a cream toner may suit you better than a regular moisturizer as it’s lighter in texture and is less likely to give you a shiny or oily finish. On the other hand, if your face is extremely dry, you may want to use a cream toner instead of a regular toner, as it can add much needed moisture to your skin. You may also want to smooth on a lotion ora vitamin-enriched cream moisturizer on top of the cream toner for all-day hydration.

Going back to basics

If you’re not a fan of the 10-step Korean skincare routine, then using a cream toner can help you get back to the basics, as it can pare down your routine to just two steps. After cleansing, the only thing that’s left to do is to use the cream toner, and it’s a routine that works for morning and night. It’s perfect if you like a simple approach to skincare, or if you don’t have the time or budget to devote to a multi-step routine.

In the coming months, it’s expected that more K-beauty brands will be launching their own version of the cream toner in anticipation of this trend breaking out in the US. This new trend proves that you don’t need a million creams, serums, toners, essences or moisturizers to achieve clear and glowing skin – sometimes, all it takes is one product if it’s the right one for you.
