Coachella might be labeled as a music festival but with all the celebs that once again came out in full force, it’s no wonder that it is the birthplace of many beauty trends. Ariana Grande made headlines with her high ponytail and metal hair band while Winnie Harlow underwent a very playful makeover for the occasion. Last year, iridescent highlighter, rhinestone accents, and mermaid hair were considered hot trends. This year, natural, wavy hair and muted makeup were coupled with some bold outfit and accessory choices. There were, of course, also countless bold splashes of color and heaps of glitter to add a sense of glamour to the hot desert setting. Of all the trends, the following received the most attention on Instagram and in fashion blogs alike.
Wavy hair was all the rage
Two hair trends seemed to dominate at this year’s event: wavy beach hair and long braids. Victoria Secret Angel Elsa Hosk looked positively angelic sporting a bouncy blow-dry while Dutch model Romee Strijd was seen with undone waves and a gorgeous bronzed complexion. Another Angel, who obviously looked exquisite, was Jasmine Tookes whose hair was styled in simple beachy waves which was complemented by another festival trend- understated make-up. Two of the festival goers that were seen donning braided hair are Jordyn Woods who showed off her glistening butt-skimming braids and Stella Maxwell whose blonde pseudo-braids were adorned with multiple threads.
Natural makeup everywhere
2019 has brought us a range of gorgeous makeup trends which includes the ‘no-makeup’ look which focuses on a light airy look that is as feminine as it is refreshing. Countless celebs seemingly found inspiration by the desert, opting for flawless skin, nude lips and sandy eye shadows. Gigi Hadid started of her weekend with a playful blowout, understated mushroom eyes, and a matte lipstick. Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski, kept both her hair and makeup minimalistic, matching the neutral shades of her animal-print top. Other celebs that displayed a natural look include the stunning Kendall Jenner, Portuguese model Sara Sampaio, and Coachella veteran Shay Mitchell.
Splashes of color and glitter for glamour
As popular as the nude makeup look was so too were splashes of color on lips, eyes, hair, and cheeks. Bella Thorne (who broke up with beau Mod Sun at Coachella) has never been known to shy away from a bold look. She was spotted with shimmery silver eyeshadow and a bold metallic red eye shadow while Halsey rocked yellow and lime green shades courtesy of NYX Professional Makeup’s Ultimate Shadow Palette. Winnie Harlow put her own spin on a colorful look by showing up with bright pink hair that reached all the way down to her waist. As far as pretty makeup trends go nothing could compete with the glittery cheekbones and necklines that were on display. The reason for the popularity of glitter at festivals could have something to do with the fact that it will look regardless of how, and where, it is applied. Fact is, nothing looks quite as good on sunkissed skin as a gentle sprinkling of glitter does.
Don’t forget your hair accessories
Dainty hair decals were another hot trend at this year’s festival. While Draya Michele opted for delicate hairclips, KianaLedé chose slightly bolder, blinged-out hairpins. Even Elsa Hosk chose to glam up her blonde do with a selection of rhinestone pins and other girly accessories.
Coachella might have come and gone for another year but the beauty trends will continue to live on all year long, and possibly even well into 2020. Whether you opting for an understated, muted look or prefer going all out with a bold, beautiful look you are bound to feel like a star whether you were at the festival or not.
