Are You Using the Right Foundation for Your Skin Type?

Have you ever felt tired of going through dozens of different foundations and never seeming to find the right one for your skin type? With tons of products and brands available, how can you ensure that you are choosing the right shade and type every time? Finding the right makeup products, say a foundation for example, isn’t just about finding the shade or color that suits you best. All this time of buying makeup, have you considered the importance of buying makeup that is appropriate for your skin type? However, in your search to find the “perfect tone,” you must always remember that there is no one-size-fits-all formula for this. Just like in any process, the best course of action is to begin with the basics.

Determining your Skin Type

There are five (5) different types of skin. First, there’s the normal type, or the healthy skin – neither too dry, nor too oily. Scientifically, it is called eduermic. Next is the dry skin. This type produces less sebum than normal skin. As a result, it lacks the lipids the skin needs to retain moisture and protect itself from external influences which makes it feel tight and rough.

Then, there’s the oily skin which is a direct contrast from the dry skin. With this skin type, there tends to be an overproduction of sebum, which gives your skin a visible shine. Pores are also visible in this type of skin. Then, we have the combination skin which literally means that all three (3) types mentioned above are present here. Meaning, skin type may vary on the T-zone and the cheeks in this type of skin. Lastly, but definitely not the least, there’s the sensitive skin which can show up as: Redness, burning, and itching among other things.

Choosing your Shade

After you’ve identified the type of skin you have, next comes choosing your foundation’s shade. The biggest factor in determining this is your skin tone. To do this, there are a few tests you might want to try.

These are just some of the basic factors you’ll need to consider in choosing the right foundation for you. Beauty, as they say, is only skin deep. But, as far as skin – and make-up is concerned, you’d be wise to only choose the best ones for you.
