Kylie Jenner may be the world’s youngest billionaire but she is not immune to being ripped apart by savage social media users. Kylie’s current dilemma all started when she announced the launch of her new skincare range known as Kylie Skin which contains numerous skin-care basics such as a vitamin C serum and foaming face wash. The item that caused the public outcry is none other than a Walnut Face Scrub – a controversial product that has been known to cause micro-tears on the skin when used too vigorously. Some of Kylie’s followers even went on to say that she is trying to sell products that she will never use herself as she had access to the most expensive skincare ranges in the world. If that was not bad enough, Ms Jenner went on to make a video that trended for all the wrong reasons.

How waterproof was that foundation?

The offending video clip that was posted on the Twitter and Instagram accounts belonging to Kylie Skin showed Kylie washing her face with her Foaming Face Wash before wiping it with a fluffy snow-white towel. While all of this may seem pretty genuine, viewers were quick to point out that a huge amount of facial foundation was left on the towel. The product used in the video claims to “cleanse skin while helping to remove dirt, oil, and makeup for a fresh, bright complexion” – something it clearly battles to achieve. As was expected, Twitter showed absolutely no mercy when it came to calling out the superstar with some comments reading “This how you wash your face when you can buy new skin,” and “Imagine buying face wash from someone who doesn’t even know how to wash their face properly”.

Things are bad when your own sister mocks you

Shortly after Kylie’s video flopped, her sister Kim Kardashian decided to make her own version of the video. Kim posted an Instagram story that stated that she got hold of Kylie’s phone and started to mimic her in a playful manner. At one point she says: “I am going to teach you guys how to do a tutorial on how to wash your face, and b——, I only have 10 seconds.” She later activates a funny youthful face filter before saying: “Alright so after that 10-second face wash tutorial, this is now what I look like. I have such a youthful complexion now.” At the end of the video, Kylie can be heard screaming at her sister, accusing her of being mean.

But how long should you then wash your face?

Unless the product you are using states otherwise you should aim to wash your face for approximately 30 seconds. Exfoliating, however, may take up to a minute while an exfoliate/wash/tone combo can take in the region of two minutes. According to Dr. Howard Sobel, a NYC-based dermatologist suggests that oil cleansing should take place before you wash your face to remove makeup and other impurities from the skin. This is some good advice that Kylie should also consider following if she does not want to embarrass herself in front of her millions of followers again.

If you’re a celeb like Kylie Jenner, you best make sure you know what you are doing before making a video and making a fool of yourself. That said, despite what was perceived to be ‘bad publicity’, the Foaming Face Wash used in the video sold out on the range’s website shortly after the video went viral.

All Hail The Beauty Trends Inspired by Game of Thrones https://yourskinonline.com/all-hail-the-beauty-trends-inspired-by-game-of-thrones/ https://yourskinonline.com/all-hail-the-beauty-trends-inspired-by-game-of-thrones/#respond Thu, 23 May 2019 07:37:00 +0000 https://yourskinonline.com/?p=4021

After 8 years filled with drama, heartache, and suspense, viewers finally had to bid farewell to the Game of Thrones characters they have grown to both love and despise. In the final episode, Daenerys Targaryen died at the hands of Jon Snow, Bran Stark became the Lord of the Six Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, and Arya sailed off in search of new adventure. Apart from leaving die-hard fans divided over the epilogue, Game of Thrones has also triggered a range of beauty trends. From platinum-blonde hair and braids to interesting headpieces and guyliner, the GoT spirit will live on in the many looks inspired by the series.

Platinum blonde hair is here to stay

There aren’t many people who do not know Daenerys Targaryen and it is thanks to her signature platinum blonde hair as much as her dragons. A number of celebs, including Kim Kardashian, have been seen sporting white-blonde hair reminiscent of the mother of dragon. The latest celeb to sport Khaleesi-worthy hair is none other than Katy Perry who revealed her new look during the American Idol finale which aired at about the same time as when poor Daenerys breathed her last breath on the HBO show.

As popular as platinum blonde hair may be, it won’t suit everyone and it is also not the easiest of colors to achieve, especially if you have previously-colored hair. If you do indeed want to channel your inner dragon mom, opt for a visit to a professional salon as a home job may leave you looking like a bowl of yellow custard instead.

Braids and plaits for old and young

Even if you only watched a couple of GoT episodes you would have noticed that just about every single female character sported a braid or plait of sort at one time or another. Daenerys once explained that a braid symbolizes victory which may very well be one reason why the strong, fearless women were always seen sporting one (or many). Braids and plaits have, in fact, been popular in the real world for quite some with everyone from cute toddlers and teens to the sun-kissed celebs such as Shay Mitchell sporting various braided styles. Your braid can be as feminine or as sporty as you wish and while you may not be invited to attend a ball in the Seven Kingdoms, a plaited do is perfectly acceptable for even a red-carpet affair.

Real men aren’t afraid of eyeliner apparently

Although the world is still mourning the demise of Jason Momoa’s famous beard, there was a time where he was better known for his ample use of guyliner than for his facial hair. For his role as Khal Drogo, Momoa sported an excessive amount of eyeliner that gave him a sexy yet sinister look in the 10 episodes he starred in between 2011 and 2012. While eyeliner has never been frowned upon by rockers such as Billie Joe Armstrong and Jared Leto, it has only been in recent years (thanks to GoT perhaps?) that men from all walks of life have started to embrace male beauty products. Today, thanks to YouTubers such as James Charles and Patrick Starr, actors including Cody Fern and Ezra Miller, and even professional sportsmen such as skater Sean Pablo are often seen sporting their own take on guyliner, with great success and large-scale approval.

Game of Thrones may have come to an end but the beauty trends inspired by the series are bound to be around for quite some time. Even if you aren’t a celeb ready to rock the red carpet with your platinum blonder hair or killer braids you can still plait your hair, put on a smile and channel your inner Khaleesi.

Microdermabrasion VS Glycolic Peels: Is There Really Even a Difference? https://yourskinonline.com/microdermabrasion-vs-glycolic-peels-is-there-really-even-a-difference/ https://yourskinonline.com/microdermabrasion-vs-glycolic-peels-is-there-really-even-a-difference/#respond Mon, 20 May 2019 04:36:00 +0000 https://yourskinonline.com/?p=3990

Every time we open our social media feeds, we are bombarded with a plethora of photos depicting the flawless complexions of models and celebs such as Miranda Kerr, Rihanna, and Katy Perry. Despite religiously cleansing, toning, and moisturizing, we never quite seem to get rid of our uneven skin tone, fine lines, wrinkles, and other blemishes standing between us and a radiant appearance of our own.

Thankfully, there are a number of professional treatments available that can boost the appearance of our skin significantly. Microdermabrasion and glycolic acid peels are two of the most popular methods – they’re used not only to combat the onset of age-related appearance issues but to give skin a general healthier appearance as well. As both treatments have very similar properties, it’s important to take a closer look at their likenesses and differences.

What are these treatments even used for?

Microdermabrasion is a versatile procedure that is most effective at treating superficial skin blemishes. It can remove the coarse, uneven skin texture caused by prolonged exposure to the sun and also reduce the appearance of minor acne scarring. Uneven skin tone can also be reduced by microdermabrasion as can fine lines and wrinkles. A glycolic peel can be used to eliminate rough, dry, skin, reverse some of the effects of sun damage, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. These peels work best on more serious skin problems such as deep wrinkles and a very uneven skin tone.

How do the processes differ?

Microdermabrasion is a completely non-evasive procedure that makes use of a special wand spraying very fine crystals onto the surface of the skin. The purpose of this is to remove the layer of dead cells that is present on the skin in order to reveal the smoother, more radiant-looking skin that is underneath. A glycolic peel is more invasive and uses glycolic acid (which is derived from sugarcane) to give the skin a deep exfoliation.

When applied to the skin, the glycolic acid binds with the ‘adhesive’ that holds dead skin cells on your skin, forcing it to fall away. This will reveal a new layer of sskin that is not only younger-looking, but more radiant in appearance as well.

There’s a difference in timing and commitment

Although the difference in the time it takes for each of the procedures to be completed is not enormous, it is worthy of a mention. Microdermabrasion generally takes between 30 minutes and an hour to complete and is generally performed every 2 to 3 weeks for optimal results. A glycolic peel itself, on the other hand, takes about 10 minutes to complete although it is often performed in conjunction with other procedures such as a facial. Peel treatments are delivered every 3 to 4 weeks for best results. While you may notice some immediate difference to your skin it may take up to 5 treatments (of either procedure) before a truly notable difference is observed.

Why not have the best of both worlds?

If comparing microdermabrasion and glycolic peels seems like too much hard work, you can always combine the treatments. Although this is a big decision that you can only make after consulting with a physician or skin care professional, the results may prove to be well worth the effort. The biggest advantage of combining these procedures is that it provides a penetration that is deeper than any treatment can offer on its own.

The skin is typically first exfoliated with the microdermabrasion before the glycolic peel is applied. As the combination of procedures increases the risk of hyperpigmentation, it is generally not advised for individuals with darker skin tones.

Both microdermabrasion and glycolic peels can be used with great effect. Even if you are familiar with your own skin type it is best to always seek out professional advice before making use of any skin care treatments, regardless of how safe they appear to be.

Kombucha – More Than Just A Gut Healer, It Boosts Your Skin https://yourskinonline.com/kombucha-more-than-just-a-gut-healer-it-boosts-your-skin/ https://yourskinonline.com/kombucha-more-than-just-a-gut-healer-it-boosts-your-skin/#respond Fri, 17 May 2019 16:02:35 +0000 https://yourskinonline.com/?p=3975

Kombucha has been all the rage for quite some time, with celebs like Lady Gaga, Kourtney Kardashian, and Zoe Kravitz touting its immense health benefits. While everyone’s favorite fermented tea drink is known to drastically improve gut health and even decrease your risk of infection, it has also become commonplace in skin care rituals. In fact, whether you drink kombucha on a regular basis or apply it topically, you can expect to see a great improvement in the overall health of your skin.

What exactly is kombucha?

Despite its recent spike in popularity, kombucha is by no means a new invention. It has, in fact, been around for more than 2,000 years. Kombucha can best be described as a fermented drink made from a symbiotic colony of yeast and live bacteria (also known as a SCOBY) and sweetened black or green tea. The SCOBY, which is often described as looking like a floating mushroom, breaks down the sugar in the tea to release the probiotics, which is believed to have incredible health benefits.

How does drinking kombucha help my skin?

It is no secret that there is a very strong relationship between gut and skin health. A simple imbalance between the good and bad bacteria in your gut can have a huge effect on your skin, causing nasty breakout and irritating dry (or oily) patches. As kombucha helps to keep your gut bacteria well-balanced, it also renders your skin healthier. Not only will drinking kombucha help you to actively address a range of common skin conditions, including acne, eczema, dermatitis and rosacea, but it will also leave you with a beautiful, glowing complexion thanks to its high levels of B-vitamins.

What about topical use?

Kombucha can be used topically in two ways. You can either apply the tea to your face like you would a cleanser or toner, or invest in a set of beauty products that contain the miracle brew. The low pH of kombucha (and kombucha vinegar in particular) makes it a natural astringent that can be used to disinfect and exfoliate all skin types. You can even go as far as to make your own kombucha face mask by blending together half a cup of SCOBY with a few tablespoons of kombucha tea, one raw egg, and a few drops of almond oil. Apply to your face, leave for between 5 and 15 minutes, and rinse off with luke-warm water before applying your favorite gentle moisturizer.

Is using kombucha-infused products worth the effort?

Cosmetic companies such as Oak Bay Naturals and emerginC have released a number of product lines that features kombucha as a key ingredient. As these products all require the use of some type of preservative in order to have an acceptable shelf-life, there will not be any live bacteria in them. They may, however, contain bacterial extracts that can be conducive to healthy skin while also combating common skin conditions, addressing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and leaving your skin looking radiant.

Kombucha undoubtedly has the potential to help transform your skin from drab to fab if used in conjunction with a healthy diet and good skin care regime. Although you may not see a difference immediately, a few days is all that is needed to notice small yet impressive differences to the general appearance of your skin.

Behold The Rise Of The At-Home Beauty Service https://yourskinonline.com/behold-the-rise-of-the-at-home-beauty-service/ https://yourskinonline.com/behold-the-rise-of-the-at-home-beauty-service/#respond Mon, 06 May 2019 12:08:56 +0000 https://yourskinonline.com/?p=3861

Despite the American salon and spa industry booming, an increasing number of women simply do not have the time or energy to visit a local facility to have their beauty requirements seen to. Cue the at-home beauty service that is fast becoming the go-to for women who prefer to have their beauty treatments at home. Being pampered in your own home is no longer only limited to the rich and famous who have their own beauty teams at their beck and call. Thanks to an increasing number of at-home beauty treatment providers it has become possible to simply pick up your phone and request the treatments you want done via a number of easy-to-use applications such as those originally offered by Uber and Doordash.

Can I really have my beauty treatments at home?

Companies such as Glamsquad, Priv, Soothe, and Vênsette are challenging conventional salons and spas in the USA by offering a range of quality, sought-after services, and treatment to clients in the comfort of their own homes. Glamsquad, for example, operates in NYC, LA, Washington DC, Boston, and the Bay area and offer services such as lash extensions, make-up lessons, manicures, massages, and blowouts. While most companies limit their mobile services to hairstyling, basic skin care, makeup application, nail services, and it is not unheard of to stumble across one that will take care of your teeth whitening, facial acupuncture, and derma-rolling at your own home.

A vitamin IV can boost your mental and physical well-being

While having your hair and nails done at your own home may not seem very out of the ordinary, receiving an IV treatment will definitely raise a few eyebrows. Maura Mundell, a former corporate lawyer, was permanently exhausted due to a demanding lifestyle after having no luck with conventional methods she visited an integrated-medicine practitioner who prescribed a course of high-potency vitamin IVs.

Within 6 months Mandell was feeling 100% better and as much as 20 years younger but found herself frustrated with how difficult it was to schedule regular appointments to receive vitamin IV drips. She eventually started researching how to start her own on-demand business and later co-founded StriveIV which offers as many as 15 preservative-free vitamin and mineral drips targeting various issues to homes in NYC, Westchester County, and certain areas in Connecticut.

Don’t forget to do your homework

As life-changing as in-home beauty services may be, it is always a good idea to do some research before parting with any money. There is a huge difference between getting a manicure and having Botox injected into your face. While it is possible to have both treatments done in the comfort of your own home, it might be best to not let just anyone stick needles in you. Prior to booking a home procedure check out the credentials of the various service providers, paying special attention to their licensing and safety precautions. Reading client reviews are also a good way to gauge whether a company truly delivers on all its promises. While there are many superb service providers there are, unfortunately, also a few fly-by-nights which are best avoided if you value your appearance and your health.

The world of skin care and beauty is evolving so fast that it is sometimes hard to stay abreast of the latest developments. Being able to enjoy beauty treatments at home is, however, one trend that is definitely worth exploring as it can not only save you time but keep you looking your best as well.

Does How You Wash Matter? Here’s Why Should Exfoliate Before Cleansing https://yourskinonline.com/does-how-you-wash-matter-heres-why-should-exfoliate-before-you-cleanse/ https://yourskinonline.com/does-how-you-wash-matter-heres-why-should-exfoliate-before-you-cleanse/#comments Fri, 26 Apr 2019 21:46:16 +0000 https://yourskinonline.com/?p=3836

For countless years we have been sticking to the same basic skincare routine: cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize. Now it seems we have been doing it wrong all this time. According to celebrity dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer who has treated the likes of Kim Kardashian, Ellen Degeneres, Beyonce, and Margot Robbie, exfoliation of the skin should take place PRIOR to cleansing it. The creator of the Skin Revival system, who has also claimed that he is the only remaining true dermatologist left on earth, is of the belief that exfoliating at the start of your skincare routine may give you better results.

Get rid of the dead skin first

Dr. Lancer draws a very simple comparison between human skin and a tile floor.“Say you want to replace a tile floor,” he stated. “If your epidermis is the floor, the exfoliation is the gentle lifting process that breaks up the old worn tiles. Next, you have to scoop up and sweep away the debris. The cleanse step washes away the exfoliant, excess oil and dirt.” When explained like that, the step swap actually makes a lot of sense but does it really make a difference to your overall skin care routine? The answer, apparently, is a resounding yes. Exfoliating your skin will increase the effectiveness of both your cleanser and moisturizer tenfold.

What exactly is the Lancer Method?

What Lancer says certainly has some merit, especially considering that he boasts a decent understanding of cell biology. His views on the order of the steps in a typical skin care routine also form the basis of a 3-step regimen many of his clients swear by known as the Lancer Method. Although it may sound very complicated, the method is very straight forward and merely involves exfoliation, cleansing, and nourishing with a moisturizer or serum. The method is known to do a stellar job at reversing the natural deceleration of cellular function. In short, the Lancer Method effectually stimulates your skin to the extent that it is able to repair itself.

Don’t forget to remove your makeup before exfoliating

As simple as the change to your beauty routine may seem, it is important to remember one simple thing: remove your makeup prior to exfoliating your skin. While the crew over at Lancer Skincare swear by olive or grapeseed oil to remove makeup, you are welcome to use the product of your choice. You can even make use of your regular cleanser as long as you do the steps in the right order afterward: exfoliate, clean, moisturize. Depending on your skin type you can exfoliate anywhere between twice a day twice a week to keep your skin blemish free, although Dr. Lancer himself encourages that his clients to do it once a day.

Women Applying Cream in Mirror

Why is exfoliating even a thing?

When you exfoliate you slough away a heap of dead skin cells that can not only ruin your makeup but trap oil and dirt on your skin as well. Exfoliation uncovers a set of fresh skin cells which will make it a lot easier for your skin to absorb serums, creams, and treatments. It will also allow these products to penetrate your skin more deeply, leaving your skin looking and feeling more radiant looking than ever before.

Making a simple change such as exfoliating before cleansing can boost the effectiveness of your skin care routine drastically. If it is radiant, healthy skin you are after you have nothing to lose by giving the Lancer Method a try.

Birdman has a Change of Heart as Face Tattoos Become the New Normal https://yourskinonline.com/birdman-has-a-change-of-heart-as-face-tattoos-become-the-new-normal/ https://yourskinonline.com/birdman-has-a-change-of-heart-as-face-tattoos-become-the-new-normal/#respond Wed, 17 Apr 2019 07:35:11 +0000 https://yourskinonline.com/?p=3762

While face tattoos may be the new normal thanks to artists such as Post Malone, Wiz Khalifa, and Justin Bieber, one rapper is ready to change his look. Bryan Christopher Williams, better known as Birdman, has just turned 50 and is seemingly ready to change his look. The renowned rapper, music producer and fiancé of songbird Toni Braxton, has expressed his desire to rid his face of a number of tattoos to a number of publications and TV shows. Always known to make a bold statement, it seems that the rapper has once again decided to swim upstream.

Does wisdom come with old age?

The Cash Money Records CEO recently appeared on The Wendy Williams Show where he discussed everything from his relationships with Lil Wayne and Juvenile, to his music and, strangely enough, his image. When asked about his decision to take off the tattoos, Birdman replied: “I didn’t want to take the head tattoos off but I wanted to take the facials off. I just felt like me being older, I would like to get it off.” Although the seemingly matured rapper seems eager to get rid of his face ink, he is not completely opposed to keeping it either stating: “If I have to live with it, I will. I just felt like, me being older, I would like to get it off. But if not, it is what it is.”

Face tattoos lead to stereotyping?

When Birdman was featured in Forbes earlier this year, he echoed similar sentiments about getting the ink on his face removed. He told reporters he no longer needs them and that they are stereotyping him. He also said: “It takes away from the business and certain things.” While everyone is allowed a change of heart, the motive behind Birdman’s is being extensively questioned. One can’t help but wonder why the man who once encouraged rapper Mikkey Halsted to get face tattoos, now feels that it is stereotyping him.

It’s going to hurt getting them removed Birdman!

If Birdman indeed has his tattoos removed, he is in for a substantial amount of pain. While getting a face tattoo obviously involves a certain degree of anguish, getting it removed is even worse. Discomfort can last for up to a week – per session. It can also take anywhere between 3 and 10 sessions to remove a tattoo which equates to a fair amount of skin blistering and pain. Sometimes, it isn’t even possible to remove all the ink pigment from the skin which, together with some obvious scarring, can leave you with skin that is far from flawless.

Even if Birdman gets treated by the best tattoo remover in the country chances are that he will be left with scarring, lightened skin pigment, and a lot of remorse over getting inked on his face of all places to start with!

Getting inked is undoubtedly a big deal and one that definitely requires some serious consideration. If you want to make a statement like a hip-hop star, it is probably best to stick to a temporary tattoo unless you want to face excruciating removal sessions later on.

The World Goes Crazy as Jessica Rabbit Lands Iconic Makeup Collab https://yourskinonline.com/the-world-goes-crazy-as-jessica-rabbit-lands-iconic-makeup-collab/ https://yourskinonline.com/the-world-goes-crazy-as-jessica-rabbit-lands-iconic-makeup-collab/#respond Tue, 09 Apr 2019 05:51:49 +0000 https://yourskinonline.com/?p=3727

Jessica Rabbit is without a doubt one of the hottest cartoon characters in the history of animation. With her hourglass figure and pouty red lips, she has become the envy of women ( and the desire of men) all across the globe. Now the sexy toon has her own makeup line thanks to a collaboration with Ciaté London. The 3-piece limited edition makeup collection was first officially announced on the Ciaté Instagram page on 26 February this year via a video that shows Jessica singing and dancing, as well as a peek at the products themselves. The collection, which consists of an eyeshadow palette, a highlighter, and a lipstick dropped just more than a week later on 5 March.

Jessica who?

Jessica Rabbit is a long-legged, sultry-voiced fictional character in Gary K. Wolf ‘s mystery novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? as well as in its film adaptation, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?? Jessica is often depicted as Roger Rabbit’s human wife and has widely become known as a full-blown animated sex symbol. Apart from having a killer voice, Jessica’s makeup is also always spot-on, making her the perfect inspiration for makeup line.

You can never have too many eyeshadows

Every makeup buff will declare that you can never have too many eyeshadows in your makeup collection, especially not if it is as cool as the Jessica Rabbit offering. The 9-pan Jessica Rabbit palette consists of creamy and ultra-blendable matte and shimmery shadows in shades such as ‘Oh, Roger!’, ‘Drawn That Way’, and ‘Love Letter’. You can effortlessly mix and match the shades to not only recreate Ms Rabbit’s iconic look but an unlimited number of other dazzling looks as well.

Glow like a superstar

The champagne-colored highlighter, called ‘Glow-To’ renders an almost-weightless, durable finish while creating the illusion of killer cheekbones. The paraben-free, vegan highlighter can be applied to the entire face and neckline for an overall, natural glow, or layered for a more intense gleam. Not only is the highlighter of superb quality, but it is also embossed with Jessica’s face, adding a heap of whimsy to what is otherwise a rather boring piece of makeup.

Pout baby, pout!

It is impossible to pull off Jessica’s sultry pout without wearing a very impressive lipstick. Inspired by Jessica’s glittering dress, the ‘Glitter Storm’ lipstick is without a doubt the pièce de résistance of the collection. The ground-breaking lipstick combines star-like pigments with a fill color base to create a product that produces extensive shimmer and shine unlike anything else. For the best results, exfoliate your lips gently before applying the lipstick and apply a clear top coat to make it last all day (or night) long. The lipstick, as well as the eyeshadow and highlighter, is housed in beautiful packaging adorned with a picture of Jessica, making it the perfect gift for yourself or another Jessica Rabbit fan.

Whether you are a fan of Jessica Rabbit or not, you will definitely fall in love with her makeup range. Even if you have never been blown away by a toon’s ability to ooze sensuality chances are good that you too could benefit from having a bit more shimmer and shine in your life.

Glass Skin: True Trend Or Foreign Fantasy? https://yourskinonline.com/glass-skin-true-trend-or-foreign-fantasy/ https://yourskinonline.com/glass-skin-true-trend-or-foreign-fantasy/#comments Fri, 05 Apr 2019 12:07:48 +0000 https://yourskinonline.com/?p=3709

During the latter half of 2017, Asian-American beauty guru Ellie Choi achieved social media fame when she revealed all the steps of her beauty regime that left her skin looking clear, luminous, and almost transparent – just like glass. Korean skincare products and routines have been taking the world by storm for many years, with the glass skin trend inspiring countless women to try their utmost to achieve flawless skin. While the end results sure looks remarkable, one can’t help but wonder if this trend is able to live up to its hype or if it is simply another desperate attempt at obtaining unachievable beauty.

What exactly is the glass skin routine?

If you want to achieve glass skin, you need to follow certain steps that will leave your skin smooth, even-toned, and positively lustrous-looking. The biggest difference between this Korean beauty trend and its Western counterparts is the fact that it does not make use of any astringents. Instead, it rather relies on numerous hydrating ingredients that keep your skin well moisturized while also maintaining a healthy pH balance. In order to get the most out of your skincare routine, you need to aim to use products that are not only lightweight and hydrating but as natural as possible and filled with powerful antioxidants as well.

The glass skin routine

Achieving glass skin requires a multi-dimensional approach that will render the surface of the skin ultra-smooth while, beneath the surface, a significant amount of moisture helps to create a fresh, dewy appearance. The first step of the regime requires you to remove all traces of your makeup before applying a toner that will help relax your pores after cleansing. After toning, a skin essence will be applied before you bring out the big guns – your serum and moisturizer. The serum will plump up your skin and remove fine lines, while slathering on a lot of quality moisturizer will ensure your skin should appear youthful, radiant, and practically flawless.

The fun does not stop here

After you have achieved the desired glassy look, you can opt to remain au naturel or complete your look with a foundation and highlighting lotion. Choose a gel-based foundation that is light and has an illuminating effect, and steer clear of anything that promises a matte finish, as it will counter the glassy look you worked so hard for. A highlighting lotion can further enhance your skin’s natural glow, and will be the final step in the routine before you apply your makeup as normal.

But does it work?

As with any trend, there are a lot of very contradicting opinions pertaining to the viability of glass skin. While there is no denying that the routine can become pretty tedious, you can guarantee to achieve the best possible results by making use of high-quality products and engaging in the routine on a regular basis. You can also boost the efficacy of a glass skin regime even more by drinking plenty of water, following a healthy diet filled with fruit and vegetables, and steering clear of bad habits such as smoking and drinking as far as possible.

The glass skin trend, like most others, seemingly works wonders for some, while others remain completely unaffected by the rigorous skincare routine. Whether you religiously follow trends or not, taking care of your skin will, thankfully, never be in vain.

Unless you are a rocker like Jared Leto or Billy Joe Armstrong, or a famous sports star like David Beckham, chances are even the smallest amount of eyeliner or nail polish would have earned you a few condemning looks up until recently. As the beauty industry embraces an era of inclusivity, men all across the globe are, however, redefining the historical standards of male beauty. The days of men’s grooming products is limited to beard and hair products are long gone with an increasing number of cosmetic houses tailoring their ranges to accommodate the modern male as well. While aftershave balm and facial moisturizers have found their way into the medicine cabinets of most male-oriented bathrooms, foundation, brow fillers, and other types of makeup are also fast becoming popular among forward-thinking, appearance-conscious men.

Always start with a good foundation

Actors, TV hosts, and news reporters have been relying on foundation to make them appear more youthful and healthy for years. Today, even the average man on the street has become accustomed to using foundation to cover up scars and uneven skin tone. Foundations come in liquid, cream, and powder form and, together with a good primer and concealer can help to cover dark rings underneath the eyes, fine lines and wrinkles, and large pores. Applying a primer as a base layer is especially recommended for guys with a lot of facial hair as it prevents the foundation from sitting on the hair follicles.

Brow fillers are a game changer

It is a fact that not all men were blessed with beautiful brows like those sported by Drake and Joe Jonas. While some guys prefer to leave their brows in their natural state, others recognize the vast difference adding some shape and definition can do for their appearance.

An instant concealing powder, such as Color Wow’s Root Cover Up does wonders to make your brows look fuller while a quality brow pencil from brands such as Boy de Chanel and Glossier will enable you to both sculpt and fill your brow in the comfort of your own home.

Natural bronzers trump sun damage

Many men, just like women, prefer a sun-kissed, tanned look over a pasty complexion. While it is possible to achieve the desired look by spending time in the sun or making use of a spray-tan, a quality bronzing powder or gel can do the same thing. Not only is a bronzer a lot more gentle on the skin than the sun, but it can also be washed off at the end of the day, unlike a fake tan. There are a number of quality bronzers on the market that can be used by men and women alike although some guys may feel more comfortable using a product specifically designed for men such as the offering from Tom Ford’s grooming line.

Never neglect your lips

Your lips need as much, if not more, care as the rest of your face which is why a good-quality lip balm has become an essential component of any grooming regime. Dry, chapped lips are not only unsightly, but uncomfortable as well and can become downright painful if left untreated. The best lip balms for guys are those that provide a matte finish so that it does not even look or feel like there is anything on your lips.

Chanel’s men’s makeup line includes a bam that both hydrate and smoothes the lips while offerings from brands such as Black Jack, Nivea, and Anthony Logistics for Men all pride themselves on their high-quality products specifically designed for men.

In many ways, the world is becoming systematically less conservative as far as things like clothing and makeup are concerned. Make-up wearing men are becoming all the more commonplace and will undoubtedly soon become as ordinary a site as a beautiful woman sporting the latest blush and lip color available on the market.
